The Sungkai railway station is located in Taman Permai Jaya, near the town of Sungkai in the Batang Padang district of Perak, Malaysia. Electrified in March 2007 as a part of the Rawang-Ipoh Electrified Double Tracking Project, the station includes a freight yard and serves as a key rail service point for the area.

Accessible via Route A189 and close to the Federal Route 1 main road, the station is not only a hub for Sungkai town but also for Bidor town, providing the nearest station for its residents after their own station was closed. It is also conveniently located near Kuala Bikam town.

Arrival Point – Ipoh Railway Station

The Ipoh railway station has been in operation since 1917 and is a historic structure in Perak, Malaysia, notable for its design by Arthur Benison Hubback. Managed by Keretapi Tanah Melayu, the station provides KTM ETS train services and also oversees freight operations. It features nine tracks, with four being electrified.

Located at Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab, the station is near key city buildings such as the Ipoh Main Post Office, the Court Complex, and the Town Hall, along with several historical sites. The station underwent renovations in the 2000s, which saw the addition of new platforms and the construction of an overhead pedestrian bridge while preserving original elements like the station benches and the hotel. In front of the station is Ipoh Heritage Square, which features a cenotaph honoring soldiers, and is part of the city’s heritage trail. The square also includes an Ipoh tree, a symbol tied to the city’s heritage.

About ETS

ETS, or Electric Train Service, is Malaysia’s high-speed rail service that runs along the electrified double-track segments of the West Coast Line from Gemas to Padang Besar, close to the Thai border. Trains can reach speeds up to 140 kilometers per hour. There are three service classes available: Platinum, Gold, and Silver. The Platinum service is the quickest, offering the fewest stops at major stations only. The Gold service stops at additional stations along the route, and the Silver service is the most economical, stopping at nearly all stations.

The cost of tickets on the ETS varies depending on the service class, the time of travel, and the total distance of the trip. Tickets can be purchased online, at railway stations, or through authorized ticket agents. Discounts are offered to senior citizens, students, and disabled individuals.

Every carriage on the ETS is designed to ensure passenger comfort, with features such as air-conditioned seating equipped with headrests, fold-down trays, power outlets for charging electronic devices, and designated spaces for luggage.

Train Facilities

Coach C of the ETS trains provides a musolla for passengers to pray and an F&B Bistro where snacks and drinks can be bought. Secure luggage racks are located in coaches A and F. There is designated seating for elderly and disabled passengers in coach D, which is also near a unisex, OKU-friendly washroom. For entertainment and information during the trip, LCD screens are installed at the end of each coach and in the passenger hallway.
