The travel route from Alor Setar to Langkawi includes two stages:

Alor Setar Railway Station to Kuala Kedah Ferry

Traveling from Alor Setar Railway Station to Kuala Kedah Jetty, where the ferry to Langkawi departs, can be conveniently done by taxi or bus. For a direct route, a taxi can be taken from the railway station, with the journey to the jetty covering approximately 13 kilometers and costing around 20 MYR. This is a quick and straightforward option for those looking to reach the jetty without delay.

Alternatively, for a more economical option, one can choose the local bus service operated by the HBR Group. To catch the bus, travelers should exit the Alor Setar Railway Station, turn right to pass the old train station, and then take a left upon reaching the main road, proceeding towards the city center for about 10 to 15 minutes. The bus stop is conveniently situated on a road parallel to the north of the main road once it turns into a one-way street.

The white buses of the HBR Group display their destination on the front screen, making it easy to identify the right service to Kuala Kedah. With a fare of just 1.70 MYR, the bus journey is both budget-friendly and relatively brief, typically taking 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic conditions.

Upon reaching Kuala Kedah, the bus stops on the main road in front of the ferry terminal, placing travelers right where they need to be to continue their journey to Langkawi. Inside the terminal, ticket counters are available for purchasing ferry tickets. It’s also worth noting that these buses serve the route to Terminal Bas Shahab Perdana, the main bus station in Alor Setar, thus connecting passengers to a wider network of bus services.

Kuala Kedah Ferry to Langkawi

The ferry service from Kuala Kedah Jetty to Langkawi, operated by the Langkawi Ferry Line, offers a reliable and adaptable timetable with five daily departures. An adult fare is set at 34.50 MYR, presenting a budget-friendly choice for the trip. For children up to 12 years old, tickets are priced at 20.50 MYR. Passengers have the option to purchase tickets either at the jetty’s ticket counter or online for added convenience.

The ferry ride itself is estimated to take around one hour and 45 minutes, offering passengers a scenic transit across the waters to the island of Langkawi. Departures are conveniently timed from early morning, with the first ferry leaving at 7:00 am, to evening, with the last ferry at 7:00 pm, catering to various travel preferences and allowing ample opportunity for travelers to plan their trip to suit their itinerary.
